One of Harald's biggest projects was the Jelling Stone. On the left is an image of the Jelling stone, which is set in Jutland.
The Jelling Stone was made by Harald Bluetooth, he used his wonderful artistic skills to create it.
The Jelling stone is a big stone, it has three sides, one side has an inscription on it about his parents, the other side has Christ on it, and the third side has a big snake like beast wrapped around a lion.
This stone was created as a memorial of his parents, Queen Thyra and King Gormsson. His parents were buried next to the stone but later Harald had them reburied in the Church that he had built next to the Jelling stone. The reburial was followed by a proper funeral.
The different sides on the stone meant different things-
The inscription- The inscription reads 'King Harald commanded this memorial to be made in memory of Gorm, his father and in memory of Thyre his mother- That Harald who won the whole of Denmark for himself.'
The bearded Christ side- One side has the oldest picture of Christ in Scandinavia carved on it. Christ's arms are stretched and spread open to represent a cross. This represents Kingdom of Denmark's Christianity and its unification.
The Great Beast side- This side has a big snake carved into it. The snake is seen to be twisting and turning around an animal, or what looks like a lion. This represents the battle between good and evil.
